Pilsen Food Tour

Let there be no doubt that Pilsen calls you to taste its cultural dishes.

The aromas of tamales, tacos, sopes, huarches, burritos, chile relleno, and enchiladas waft through the air up and down 18th Street. Barbecued meats (carnitas) sizzle in windows at local butcher shops (carnacerias).  Dulces (sweets and pastries)  make their siren call from the window displays of Pilsen's several panaderias (bakeries) and candy stores. Ice cream shops (neverias and paleterias) tempt passersby with salty, sour, sweet and spicy  variations of  frozen confections.

In brief, Pilsen is a culinary immersion experience of the most savory kind. The authentic flavors of Mexico await at every door step while the rhythms of ranchero music pulsate out of storefronts announcing Pilsen's appeal to the senses.

Let the Walk Chicago Tours' Culinary Guide Staff, headed by accomplished and prominent chef Judith Dunbar Hines, introduce you to Pilsen's delicacies. Not only will you "sample your way" through the neighborhood, but your culinary guide will explain the ingredients and preparation that make each taste genuine and uniquely Pilsen.
